Abstract

This study determined the level of awareness of first-year Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) students regarding the Network Design and Management (NDM) and Web and Mobile Application Development (WMAD) major specializations and examined its relationship with students’ chosen specialization and intention to shift. A quantitative descriptive-correlational design was employed involving 62 first-year BSIT students selected through convenience sampling. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Chi-Square Test of Independence, and Spearman Rank Correlation. The findings revealed a high level of awareness of both NDM (M = 3.53) and WMAD (M = 3.69). Moreover, 83.87% of the respondents had no intention to shift. Inferential analysis showed no significant relationship between students’ awareness and their chosen specialization (χ² = 3.282, p = .350) and intention to shift (ρ = –0.064, p = .620). The findings suggest that specialization choice and shifting intention are influenced by factors beyond awareness alone.
